ROAD PAVING COSTS

BOARD’S POLICY CRITICISED

The much debated '‘question of paving costs was again discussed at the meeting of the City and Suburban Highways Board yesterday. The question arose when the city engineer’s replies to a series of questions framed by Mr. D. R. Hoggard, chairman of the Hutt County Council, came before the board. Mr. Hoggard stated at the outset that he did not consider the replies were satisfactory, and proceeded to criticise the policy of the board from certain angles. The board’s general policy was vigorously defended by Mr. 11. D. Bennett, who submitted a statement setting out the board’s financial operations. A full report will-be found on page 7.
