A message from Trepassy Bay, Newfoundland, says that the monoplane friendship, bearing Miss Amelia Earhart, a Boston society girl, pilot Sturtz, ami navigator Gordon, departed at 9.51 o'clock this morning for a European destination, probably Southampton. The weather conditions over the Atlantic are favourable. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, June 17. Mrs. Guest, wife of the Hon. Oscar Guest, is the prime mover in the Friendship Flight from America to England. She provided finance to the amount of at least £BOOO, and desired to participate in tlie flight, but her family objected to tlie risk, whereupon she appointed Miss Earhart as her representative. Montreal, June 17. The Friendship communicated with the steamship Rexmore at 3.45 o'clock in tlie afternoon and asked for her position. The ship said that the aeroplane was proceeding without trouble. The Rexmore was approximately a third of the distance from Newfoundland to Ireland, but did not see the ’plane nor know where it was when it radioed. Tlie signals were strong and clear. 700 MILES EAST OF NEWFOUNDLAND

(Australian Press Assn—United Service.) (Bee. June 18, 7.30 p.m.) New York, June 17. The monoplane Friendship, late on Sunday night, reported by radio to the steamer Rexmore that she was 700 miles east of Newfoundland.

IRISH COASTGUARD ALERT (Rec. June 18, 7.30 p.m.) London, June 18. The Irish coastguard wireless stations are alert for signals from the aeroplane Friendship. There was a thick haze on Sunday night on the {southern and western coasts, witli light northerly winds. The steamer Rexmore had not sighted the aeroplane, but received her signals clearly. PACIFIC FLYERS AWARDED AIR FORCE CROSS Sydney, June 18. Tlie Pacific flyers have been awarded by the King tlie Air Force Cross. Previous recipients were Hawker and Hinkler.
