YOUNG MAN WRONGFULLY ARRESTED Dominion Special Service. Auckland, June 18. How a young man was arrested and charged with converting a motor-truck to his own use, valued at £l7O, because of a lie spread by the owner of the truck, was told at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. In asking that the charge should be dismissed because he would offer no evidence. Sub-Inspector McCarthy called the owner of the truck, who gave’evidence. lie stated that be had been to a parly with a number of 'other young men, and was driving them home. Accused was riding on the truck, which collided with a safety zone. After the accident witness and others, with the exception of accused, ran away to avoid any trouble. Witness, in order to avoid his responsibility in the matter, told the police that the truck had been stolen. “Accused was seen leaving the truck after the accident, by a constable,” said Mr McCarthy.” When it was reported that the truck bad been stoleu, he was arrested. However, we afterwards learnt that he was quite innocent.”

The charge was immediately dismissed. and accused’s name was suppressed.
