BANKRUPT CARRIER
A PARTNERSHIP THAT WAS ' NOT A SUCCESS
NO OFFER TO CREDITORS A meeting of the creditors of Stanley William Bradley, a carrier, of Northland, was held yesterday. His liabilities‘were stated at £389 17s. 2d’., and assets at £l. ’.L'hc Oflieial Assignee (Mr. S. Tansley) presided. Bankrupt was represented by Mr. C. R. Barrbtt. The principal unsecured creditors were: British Imperial Oil Company, £229 Bs. 4d.; Firestone Distributing Company, £lO2 4s. Id.; G. Cook (Featbfr- ( ston), £2B Ils. 3fl. In his sworn Statement, bankrupt said that in 1926 he wlis carrying on business on his own uccpiint as a carrier in Wellington and Lower Hutt, under the style of W. Bradley.' 1 and was working principally for the Waiwetu Quarries, Lfd. Ju-October or November'of 1926 he was approached by his brother. Leslie Walter Bradley, and Richard Michael Walsh, who were then carrying on busi- , ncss in partnership in Wellington as carriers, under the style of “Bradley and : Walsh,” to.join them in partnership- He joined the partnership in December, 1926, or January, 1927. and it was carried on under the style of "Bradley Bros, and Walsh.” It was arranged that they-were : each to ’■ove one-third share in the business, and that they were to pool their several assets and liabilities.. When bankrupt joined the partnership his assets amounted to £1350. and his liabilities to £458. He, 'issolvcd partnership on July 16, 1927, on the ground that Welsh and he could ’not work together;
••His brother and Walsh., continued in > partnership ujider the style of "Bradley and Walsh.” and they agreed to take ' over the whole o£ the liabilities of the partnership. He had been forced to tile a petition in bankruptcy since Walsh’s bankruptcy, as creditors who obtained • • judgment against the firm of “Bradley Bros, and Walsh” were endeavouring to enforce judgment against him for liabilities, some of which, he alleged, were not incurred by him, and tjie whole of which were supposed to have been taken over by "Bradley and Walsh.” He was not in a position to make any offer to his creditors. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
