“CADGER AND SNEAK THIEF”

LABOURER SENT TO PRISON. Described by Sub-Inspector Lander as a cadger and a sneak-thief, William David Creamer, a labourer, aged 52, pleaded guilty In the Magistrate's Court yesterday to stealing a hat valued at .£2, the property of Charles Mclntyre. Ho also admitted stealing a bicycle lamp valued at 12s. (id. Sub-Inspector Lauder stated that accused had said that lie was hard up, and had heard that the proprietor of certain premises was “good for a shilling.” . He accordingly went to the promises, aud finding the proprietor out, took a hat. He later stole a bicycle lamp, and sold both the hat and the' lamp to a second-hand dealer. Accused had a long list of previous convictions. The Magistrate (Mr. J. H. Salmon) Imposed a sentence of three months' imprisonment on the first charge. For stealing the bicycle lamp accused was convicted and discharged.
