When a Christchurch watchmaker moved into a room in another part of the building in which he had long been a tenant, he felt chilly, and lit a fire (relates the "Suu”). The smoke poured out into the rr.ni, and investigations were made, it was found that in all the 21 years that the building had been in use, no fire liad been lit in this room, and the chimney was almost completely blocked with rubbish.
