The "Liberty National Magazine,” with a 1 .vo million circulation, carries an article “White Australia. the Lc .•.-pressure Centre of t!ie Globe.” by Mr. Lowthrop Stoddard, who several years ago became sensationally famous by lii.s observations on the race problem. Mr. Stoddard says in part: “Australia is the focal point where tiie extending forces, East anil West. confront each other most sharply and irreccncilr.b y. It r> (lie iogicr.l storm centre where, if potentially hostile forces should be unleashed, the hurricane winds of race war would begin to blow. Let there Im no mistake. We Americans will he in it too. America could never stand by and see Australia overwhelmed by Arm. JI. Henry Dekorab. French publicist, in an article on British migration in "Le Matin," says that at present only three countries are able to supply white immigrants—Germany, Poland, and Italy. At present Germany is holding back, but Italy .Huis begun a systematic scheme of colonisation. Methodically and systematically Italians are going to Australia. The Australian authorities are not encouraging them. but. they manage without It, owing to their own excellent local organisation. Each newcomer finds the credits necessary to establish him >n a sort of loan of honour, which the migrant engages to return by making a loan on the cohorts following hint. It is easy to imagine that after years of this kind of penetration Australia and Canada will not retain their traditional aspect of British Dominions. Their spirit will lie changed and their political tendencies modified.
