“LACK OF FACILITIES”
MOTORISTS WITHOUT LICENSES
“The method of issuing licenses in the Concert Chamber was in keeping with the best Government traditions, and these defendants are no law-break-ers—they are merely victims of inefficiency,” said Mr. P. Rollings in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when appearing for some motorists who were charged with driving unlicensed cars.
Mr. Rollings contended that the arrangements in the Concert Chamber for the issuing of this year's licenses left a great deal to be desired, and he mentioned cases of several ‘ motorists who had to return two or three times before getting their licenses.
Senior-Sergeant Scott said that the motorists had plenty of opportunity of getting their licenses and their number plates. They had two dear months prior to March 31 iii which to get. licenses. Certainly there was no obligation on any motorist to get them early, but many, especially business men, preferred to do so. Tho Magistrate (Mr. E. Page. S.M.) agreed with the remarks concerning tho congestion at the Concert Chamber, and said that he was of opinion that towards the end of March there were insufficient facilities for issuing the motor licenses.
