PAVING & SURFACING
PREPARATION DURING THE
WINTER
It was. recently stated that means had to.be taken to keep the paving gangs together during the winter months, as these men, with one or two seasons’ experience, became more or less expert. For that reason, it was announced by the chairman of the City Council’s Works Committee, that no great amount Of footpath work liad been done during the summer months, this work (for which a substantial loan was sanctioned last year) would be pushed on with during the winter with the aid of these men. Employment is also to be found fol them in other ways. The whole of the paving and surfacing work done either by the council or Highways Board during the season just closing had to be provided-.for ahead. : All the roads treated were prepared during lust winter, so it will be u case of absorbing many of these men on preparing. the streets: and roads which are down for attention in .the, schedule for next season.■-~ -■,
