STREET LIGHTING CHARGES

REFUND TO BE MADE. When a letter from the Lower Hutt Borough Council, asking for a refund of street lighting charges owing to the shortage of current during the recent dry summer, came before the Hutt "Valley Electric Power Board yesterday, the chairman (Mr. A. J. Hobbs) pointed out that it had been already decided that if the Department made an allowance the board would consider similar action in regard to the local bodies. Only two local bodies, added Mr. Hobbs, had applied for a reduction—the Hutt County Council and the Lower Hutt Borough 'Council. If any allowance were made by the board, he said, it should be to all the local bodies, irrespective of whether they had applied for a reduction or not.

It was decided that payment be made to the local bodies after the figures had been checked. .
