NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL ; • i F.A. TROPHY FOR CHAL- . . LENGE The first meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Football Association since the annual meeting of the association was held last night. Present were: Messrs. F. Campbell (chairman), A. Varney, A J. Hyder, W. G. Bryce, H. L. Godber, F. Sanders, H. H. Renai, J. A. Milburn, B. L. Salmon, H. I. Graves, and the secretary, Mr. Li. 0. Atkinson. The following committees were elected : Finance, Messrs. Campbell, Renai. Salmon, Godber.-and Hyder; competitions, Messrs. Sanders, Varney, Bryce, Salmon, and Milburn ; emergency, chairmen of the two committees.
. In reference to the F.A. trophy, a report was received from the Competitions Committee, and it was decided, after discussing this, to make the F.A. trophy a Challenge competition. The first match is to be between Auckland and Canterbury, at Canterbury or Auckland, as may be agreed, otherwise as ordered by the • council. In other respects the trophy ■will-be played along the lines of the
Brown Shield. , . ; ’ Finance. ' The. recommendations from the annual meeting on the subject of finance were presented. One was that a levy should be ' made on players (suggested by Mr. Hyder). He suggested that the amount should be collected by the associations when fixing the club fees. Mr. Salmon said a previous attempt at imposing a registration fee had not been successful, and some £5O or £6O was outstanding on it. The matter was referred to- the Finance Committee. A proposal by Mr. Campbell that each association should devote the gates of 1 one day for the benefit of the New ZeaI land Council, was discussed. Mr. Graves said he thought the associations were ready to support the idea, and he thought they should try and get a New Zealand Day.
The matter was referred to the Finance Committee to circularise the asso- ' cintions on the matter. The’ Question of paying delegates’ expenses to the annual meeting was brought up,'When the Wellington and Canterbury Associations wrote supporting the proposal.—Referred to the Finance Committee. It was decided to circularise the associations ou the subject of sending a New Zealand schoolboy team to Australia, asking for suggestions as to the method of raising the finance.—Referred to the i Competitions Committee. On the motion of Mr. Hyder a subcommittee of Messrs. Campbell, Varney, and Hyder was appointed to consider the question of combining the offices of secretary and treasurer. ; Permission was granted South Canterbury to play Canterbury on June 4. It is probable that the guarantees of the local associations in connection with the Canadian'tour will be released in the course of a few days
