HEAVY RAIN AT AUCKLAND

OUTLYING DISTRICTS FLOODED Dominion Special Service. Auckland, May 14. Auckland was lashed by a heavy downpour of rain, accompanied by a high wind, between 9 o’clock last night and 4.30 this morning. Between these hours 3.10 in. of rain fell, the deluge being the greatest since May 25, 1924, when 3.60 in. was recorded. It was a typical north-east gale that broke just before 9 p.m. As usual, some of the outlying low. districts were flooded, Edendale receiving more than its usual share. On this occasion minor damage only was done. A report from Kaitaia states five and a half inches of rain fell there and the Awanui River rose rapidly. Several houses and business premises were flooded. A slip occurred on the main road, temporarily isolating the northern districts. Sheep and cattle have been lost.
