A RATING PROBLEM

SECTIONS DISAPPEAR IN FLOOD WATERS

A letter received at the Upper Hutt Borough' Council meeting last night caused some amusement on being read aloud by the town clerk (Mr. L. F. Grimstone). The letter was as follows:—

"Re summons for rates which I received to-day: Would you accept the sections as payment for same? The sections are of no value to me, and they might be of some use to you for getting boulders and shingle. That is all there is left of them, the river .having washed them all away before it changed its course. In the event of this not being acceptable to you, would you advise me the best way to get them taken off the rating roll, ns there is nothing left to call ‘sections’? ” It was decided that legal advice be sought on the correct procedure entailed in striking such sections off the rating rolls.
