BREACH OF STAMP ACT

« CASE BROUGHT AS WARNING. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) Dunedin, May 14. A prosecution under a little-known section of the Stamp Duties Act took place in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when L. S. Ferens was charged with, having made a valuation of stock and chattels, and with having, within fourteen days thereafter, neglected to write it out in words and figures showing the amount of the valuation on duty stamped material. The evidence showed that an agreement for sale and purchase was made on April 11, 1927. Defendant was engaged to value stock in connection with sale, but failed to make a certificate on a stamned document until April 30, 1928. It was not a serious breach, and the Department instituted proceedings to serve as a warning. A fine of 10s., and costs 10s., was imposed.
