WORKMAN FINED FOR ASSAULT.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, May 14.

In the Magistrate's Court to-day! John Edward Prebble, aged 37, was charged with having unlawfully assaulted Colin McDonald. He was fined £l2, in default one month’s imprisonment, half the amount to go to McDonald. While the men were building a house the accused resented some remarks by McDonald, and hit him four blows on the head with a hammer. ’ The Magistrate (Mr. E. D. Mosley) said: “You may think yourself lucky that you did not hit McDonald on another part of the head. Then you might have had to face a much more serious charge.”
