LAND MORTGAGES

CHALLENGE TO MR. W. J. BOLSON. Mr. W. S. Wilson has issued a friendly challenge to Mr. J. Polson, president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, to prove that 50 per cent, of the farmers of the Dominion have a mortgage on their farm lands. In the event of Mr. Polson taking up the challenge and giving satisfactory proof within a month, Mr. Wilson is prepared to donate a sum of £.lO to Mrs. Polson’s fund for women and children of the backblocks. Mr. Wilson slates that bis reason for making this challenge is that, having travelled considerably throughout the North and South Islands during recent months, he has seen nothing to justify statements about farmers walking off their farms and other exaggerated statements.
