“SPORTS!”
COUNCILLOR INDIGNANT
Surprise was expressed by the chairman of the Reserves Committee (Councillor B. G. H. Burn), at last night’s meeting of the City Council, that there were so many “sports” in Wellington who, in defiance of the director of parks, the City Council, and an announcement that the links were closed, persisted in entering upon the municipal links and playing golf on Auzac Day. The matter, he said, was now in the hands of the city solicitor, and something more might be heard of it., A formal report to the council dealing with the matter was as follows: — “That although the closing of the municipal links at Berhampore on Anzac Day was advertised, and the caretaker instructed accordingly, certain players persisted in playing on the links. As a number of names are in the possession of the caretaker, the committee bare to recommend that the matter be referred to the citysolicitor to take whatever action he may deem advisable.”
