DAWN ASSHETON
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL CONCERT
Miss Dawn Assheton, the gifted coloratura soprano, scored another artistic triumph at the Concert Chamber last night, when the second and final concert of the Wellington season was given. The soprano was equally at home in operatic numbers, quaint folk songs in national costume, and negro spirituals. It was in the operatic numbers that Miss Assheton displayed tlie rare quality of her admirably-controlled voice. These included the aria from “The Barber of Seville” and “One Fine Day” from “Madame Butterfly.” Mr. Laszlo Schwartz sustained the favourable impression he created as a violinist by playing seven numbers which served to show his ver satility. Amongst these the Russian and Hungarian dauces pleased most. Both artists gave of their best, and were accorded an ovation after the concluding number, “Ave Maria,” which was sung by Miss Assheton to violin and piano accompaniment by Mr. Schwartz and Mr. Clyde Bell. The well-filled house keenly enjoyed the rich feast of music provided, and regrets were heard that the season was so short.
