FINAL BATCH RELEASED

Calcutta, May 6.

The slave-releasing expedition in the Burmese ’•Triangle” has recently returned, after the release of the final batch of 1028 slaves. No slaves now remain. . At a largely-attended durbar the Commissioner announced the definite abolition of slavery in the Hills. Generous compensation miu been paid, and henceforth there existed no further right to possess slaves or receive compensation.
