Professor T. H. Easterfield, director of the Cawthron Institute, will return to Nelson to-day, after a short visit to Wellington. The Wellington Manufacturers’ Association* yesterday extended its congratulations to Mr. N. L. Wright, of the Industrial Research Department, who has been appointed to represent the Department in Great Britain. Mr. T. J. Burton, of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association, left Auckland by the Niagara yesterday with his family for England, and a telegram wishing him bon voyage was sent from the association Mr. Campbell Cotton-Stapleton, of Pittwater, Hawkesbury River, New South Wales, who has been spending a month in the Dominion, left for Sydney by the Makura yesterday. Mr. Cotton-Stapleton, who has relatives in New Zealand, was formerly an officer in H.M. Navy. At the meeting of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association yesterday the secretary reported that he had written on behalf of the association expressing sympathy with the family of the late’ Mr. J. B. Harcourt, who had been a member of the association since its inception. Mr. C. L. Westcott, general manager for Australasia for Messrs. C. C. Wakefield and Company, Ltd., arrived in Wellington from Sydney yesterday by the Marama. The Colonial Office announces that Mr. Luke, Colonial Secretary at Sierra Leone, has been appointed Chief Secretary to the Government of Palestine, in succession to Lieutenant-Colonel Symes, whose appointment as Resident and Commander-in-Chief at Aden was recently approved by the King, states a British Official'Wireless message.

Mr. T. Bloodworth, a member of the Auckland City Council, arrived in Wellington yesterday to sit on a special committee set up by the recent industrial conference. _ .—.
