LATE DR. THOMSON

LARGELY-ATTENDED FUNERAL

The funeral of the late Dr. J. A. Thomson, Director of the Dominion Museum, took place at the Karori Cemetery yesterday morning. A service was held at the deceased's residence, Karori, the Rev. A. B. Toflil and the Rev. R. Wood officiating. At the grayeside the Rev. Dr. Gibb and the Rev. A. B. Todd officiated. The funeral was largely attended, representatives being present from the Government Departments and academic institutions. Among those present were the Hon. G. M. Thomson, M.L.C. (father of the late Dr. Thomson), and his three sons; the Hon. R. A. Wright (Minister of Education), the Mayor (Mr. G.' A. Troup), Messrs. F. W. Furkert (Under-Secretary Public Works Department), J. Hislop, P. JKelleher (Under-Secretary and. chief cleric respectively of the Department of Internal Affairs), E- N. G. Poulton (representing the Acting-Minister or Internal Affairs, the Hon. Sir Maui Pomare, who is indisposed), M., Fraser (Government Statistician), W. R. F. Oliver and E. Best (Dominion Museum staff), E. P. Turner (Secretary of the Forestry Department), B. G. Aston (Department of Agriculture), G. V. Hudson, Major Pilkington (De-, fence Department), Dr. E. Marsden (Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research), Mr. T. Forsyth. M.P. (chairman of the Education Board), Professor Easterfield (director of the Cawthron Institute), Professor Kirk (of Victoria College), Professor Ranklne Brow'n (chairman of the University Academic Board), Dr. W. J. Anderson (formerly Director of Education), Mr. E. T. Norris (Registrar of the University and Secretary of the Scholarship Selection Committee), Dr 7 Maclaurin, Mr. T. K. Sidey, M.P. The deceased was interred alongside Ins late wife. He leaves a son and a daughter.
