Meteorological Office, Wellington, May 8, 4 p.m.

Evening Forecast. —An anti-cyclone is advancing over the northern Tasman Sea. Moderate to fresh but decreasing southerly winds north of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere moderate north-west to west, freshening later. Seas moderate, in Cook Strait region and north of East Cape; elsewhere rather rough, but decreasing. Fresh to strong westerly winds and rather rough seas in the south Tasman Sea. Moderate south-east to southerly winds and moderate seas in the north-east portion. Weather mainly fair to fine, but some showers in Foveaux Strait and later on in parts of the West Coast of the South Island. Cold night with frost inland, but gradually getting milder.
