A simplified form of ballot was adopted at one of the country householders’ meetings in Taranaki recently (reports the “Herald”). Five committeemen were needed, and six persons were present. They drew lots “to see who was the lucky one, and the others formed the committee.
An excellent schoolboy howler was perpetrated by a pupil iu an Ashburton school recently (says the ‘Guardian”). The lesson was from the history book, and a passage read that “Henry paid no heed to flatterers.” The youthful historian re-wrote the passage: "Henry paid no heed to flappers.”
