For the last five months a small. party of prospectors has been operating in the Chaslands districts, and the returns are reported to be showing- good prospects (states the “Southland News”). Recently samples were sent to the Otago School bf Mines for assaying, and the report shows that in several instances the gold was distinctly promising, while all the samples showed a trace of silver. Oue sample showed a return of loz. to the tou while others were 13dwt. and Tdwt. respectively. The prospecting party also found a fair quantity. of alluvial gold, so that there are indications that this somewhat little known and isolated district may possibly come more into the ‘limelight as a passible El Dorado for the future generations.
