£lOOO WANTED A general committee meeting of the Wellington War Memorial Carillon Society was held last night, Mr. H. D. Bennett presiding over an attendance of sixteen members. It was decided to make an appeal to the public for at least £lOOO to provide for the additional cost involved through ordering a heavier -weight of bells. The City Council is to be asked for permission to hold a street day on Friday, June 8. The following committees were set up to organise the campaign:—Canvassing Committee: Mr. G. Mitchell (chairman), Messrs. J. H. Whittaker, J. I. Goldsmith, E. D. Caehemaille, G. W. Slade, T. Ward, and W. S. Wilson, with power to add further to their number. Street Day collection: Colonel T. W. McDonald . (chairman), Messrs. R. Tait, H. T. Johns, J. N. Burgoyne-Thomas, H. R. Tolley, J. N. Whittaker, R. 11. Nimmo, and Mr. M. Galloway, with power to add to their number. Publicity Committee: Messrs. E. E. Muir, H. D. Bennett and II T. Marshall. Mr. Marshall was appointed organiser of the campaign. It was resolved to write to the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association inviting them to appoint two representatives on the general committee of the Carillon Society.
