INCREASE IN EXPORTS WHAT THE TRADE RETURNS SHOW Evidence pf increased production in ine Dominion. is supplied by figures given in the latest Monthly Abstract of Statistics. ~ Details are given of the quantities, of the principal exports for the year ended March 31, 1925, and those for the preceding: year, as follow: —
For the financial year 192 <-2S, exports show an increase of £10,Li9,6J3 over the total for the previous year, The improved position is due both to increased quantities shipped and to better prices obtained. In wool alone the . increased return was £4,775,604, the advance m quantity being 95,353 bales, Butter shipments increased by 340,267 cwt.. and the declared value thereof by £2,931,0u0. Other commodities in which noteworthy increases were recorded are: Cheese, 48,924 cwt., .£318,787; frozen beef, 207, 020 cwt., £324,770; frozen lamb, 216,512 cwt., £625,694; dried milk, 3,736,8661 b., £62,-. 284; beans and peas. 61,149 centals, £61,066; oats. . 261,364 centals, £loi,026; sheepskins without wool. 392,23 b (number), £130,027; tallow, 9095 tons, £70,819. Notwithstanding a diminution of 21,097 in the number of hides exported, the total value under this heading was £199,519 greater than during 192627. The export of potatoes declined very considerably—to the extent of 20,762 tons in quantity and £199,519 in value. Other notable decreases occurred -in : Apples, 6 366,8431 b., £93,807: : rabbitskins, 4,999,516 (number). £194,537; phormium-fibre, 1624 tons, £71,907; . coal, 49,768 tons, £87,889.. .
