WELLINGTON DISTRICT BANDS
ASSOCIATION MEETING. The first annual meeting of the Wellington District Bands’ Association was held last week, Mr. T. 11. Tankard presiding. The report stated that the combined bauds made three public appearances during the year; the first for the Mayor's Unemployment Relief Fund, at which £174 10s. was collected; the second on the occasion ot a street day granted by the City Council, but which, unfortunatelj', proved a financial failure, owing to the extremely bad weather; and the third when the bands paraded for the benefit of the Red Cross Society aud _the City Ambulance, the sum of £lh> 15s. being realised. A quickstep contest tor local bands was staged, at which fourteen bands competed. Unfortunately tills contest clashed with a big sports meeting, and the financial success was not as great as was at first anticipated. It is the intention of the association to conduct beginners’ classes as soon as funds permit. Thanks were expressed to Mr. A. Cartwright, donor of the silver cup for tho local quickstep competition: to Messrs. C. Begg and Co.. The Bristol Piano Company, and Messrs. O. Hull.
