AN AUCKLAND FIRE

TWO CHILDREN SAVED FROM THE FLAMES

Dominion Special Service.

Auckland, May 6.

Aroused by the glare of a burning house in Church Street, Avondale, early this morning, a neighbour rushed into the building and saved two small children. The house, a fiveroomed wooden structure, was owned and occupied by Mr. Mark Borich, who has been away from home at Cambridge for the last month. .Everything was iu order when Mrs. Borich went tob ed last night. She was awakened by the roar of the flames and was forced to escape in her night attire. The flames already were bursting through the windows as the Fire Brigade arrived, and the roof fell in with a crash. Two leads of hose were played on the flames, and aided by a good water pressure, in less than half an hour the blaze was extinguished. The house, however, was in ruins, only the chimneys and charred walls remaining. Nothing was saved except a chest of drawers containing a few clothes. Both the house and contents are insured.
