AFTER SIX O’CLOCK
LIQUOR IN BAR As the result of a nolice visit to the Dominion Hotel on the night of March 30, Ihornas \\ eatherburn, the licensee, appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in lbe .Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged with liquor after hours. Edwin Hayes, a barman, was charged with supplying liquor after hours, being a 01 , 11e , r 1111,11 the licensee. Herbert Wills, a lodger at the hotel, was charged "i h a similar offence. Air. J. Scott entered a plea of guilty for the three men. Ln addition, twelve other men were charged with being found on licensed premises after hours. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that Sergeant Cleary, accompanied by Constables Graham and Burke, visited the hotel on the night of March 30. Constable Burke stationed himself at the back door, and Sergeant-Cleary uud Constable Graham approached by a side entrance, and were admitted by the licensee. They went into the building, and on inspection found that the bar was lit up. The swing doors were closed, but not locked. They entered the bar, and found Wills and Hayes serving customers. Hayes, added Mr. Lander, was a barman, • ' employed at Hie hotel, and Wills a lodger, who apparently assisted in the bar on occasions. By the look.of things,' trade was being done on a fairly extensive scale. On charges of being found on the premises aftffr hours, William Robert Peterson, George Bert Vince, William Hughes.' Percival George James Muir, Joseph Lowing. Kenneth Cleary, Edmond Abbott, William Patrick Connor. Michael Brosnan, Francis Sheehan, Walter Sadler, and Ernest John Watson,, were each fined £2 and costs 10s. The Magistrate intimated that so far as the charges against Weatherburn, Wills, and Hayes were concerned, he was not prepared to give a decision just I hen, but would do’so on Monday morning.
