Carlton Gore Road.—lt was decided by the City Council last night that the city engineer and city valuer be instructed to negotiate with a property owner for land required for widening a dangerous comer at Carlton Gore Road. If these negotiations cie unsuccessful the area in question is to be taken under the Public Works Act.

Finger Cut off.—A. Cole, a machinist, residing at 163 Main Road, Trentham, and employed at Hansford and Mills etel works. Cable Street, caught the fingers of his right hand in some machinery yesterday afternoon, with the result that the first finger was cut off at the second joint. He also suffered lacerated wounds on the other fingers. After being attended to by the Free Ambulance, he was removed to the hospital.

‘One in a Hundred.” —Summing up in a case in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when a motorist was charged with using obscene language, Mr. W. G. Riddel, S.M., remarked that, although there had been a conflict of evidence, ho felt that the charge had been proved. . Under the circumstances of the case, if defendant had not used any bad language, then lie would be one in a hundred. (Laughter.)

Municipal Conference Remits.—A deputation of representatives of the Municipal Association of New Zealand waited on the Prime Minister .Right Hon. J. G. Coates) and the Acting-Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. Sir Maui Porame) yesterday, to place before them passed at the recent municipal conference. The proceedings were not open to the Press.
