A remarkable escape from death was experienced by William Scott, of Reimer’s Avenue, Mount Albert, to-day, when the wheel of a vehicle passed over bis neck, inflicting only minor abrasions and Scott’s face was pressed to the ground and the pipe he was smoking was driven into his throat, the stem penetrating his neck. Scott, who is a fruiterer, was. driving his .cart along Eden Terrace when the horse stumbled. The sudden jolt threw Scott to the ground, and he rolled under the vehicle, one of the wheels passing over his neck. The injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital. Several stitches were inserted, and the patient is reported to be making satisfactory progress.
