ATE HIS SAMPLES
BUT NEVER GOT AN ORDER MR. PRATTEN’S EXPERIENCE AT GLASGOW In the course of his address to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce yesterday ’ the Hon. 11. E. Pratlen, Commonwealth Minister of Customs, related a humorous experience he had when visiting the Old Country some years ago. ’ Mr Pratten said he thought the occasion was one upon which lie might with advantage do a little business and took with him some samples of tinned pears peaches, etc., to see if he could not <’ell some of their products himself He went to several of the lug retail buyers and said practically, “Taste and trv before you buy,” and took some satisfactory orders. “I then went on to Glasgow, where I stayed for four days seeing the merchants. The'v ate all my samples and never gave me an order.” (Laughter.) He hoped he would fare better when life came to do business with New Zealand. (Hear, hear.)
