VOGELTOWN’S NEEDS
DEPUTATION TO CITY COUNCIL A deputation from Vogeltown and Mornington Municipal Electors’ Association waited on the City Council last night to urge their claims in regard to public works, in regard to which, said Councillor R. Semple, the district felt it had been neglected for some years. Mr. F. D. O’Halloran, secretary, said certain items were constantly appearing on the estimates, and where one job was done they were met with the statement that it was not possible to ptoceed with the remainder of the works on the list. The works which the deputation asked should be proceeded with, especially as they had been provided for, were a turning place in Fortunatus Street, widening and improvement of McColl Street and Mills Road, the cutting back of the dangerous corner at Whan Street, and the erection of a hand-rail in Ingestre Street. These works would not entail heavy expenditure. Repairs to footpaths and the provision of new footpaths were also necessary, and any consideration by the council would afford lhe residents a great deal of pleasure Mr. J. M. Russell referred to the road round lhe hills through , the district, which was not even receiving the minimum amount of attention, although sums had been allocated to put it in order. Regarding Ihe footpaths in Mills Road, when the loan proposals were before the ratepayers it was recognised that the work was thev looked for something to be none to that footpath out of the next esimates. > The Mayor said he. would have the whole of the matters looked into and the works commitiee would give them consideration.
