NELSON WATER SUPPLY

DRASTIC ACTION BY COUNCIL Dominion Special Service. Nelson, March 22. Drastic action to conserve die city’s water supply was taken by the City Council last night, when it decided to prohibit tlie use of water, except in the case of essential services. Since this action was decided upon the big dam has ceased to flow, and now- the whole town is drawing off the weir. The amount of water being used daily is 800,000 gallons, while only 400.000 gallons is flowing into the weir. Unless people are very careful, the whole supply will be used in four or five da vs.’ Should this happen the town will have to be shut off periodically for a few hours, in order to allow water to accumulate in the weir. It is about twenty years since the city was faced with a similar position. At' that time the supply at the dam gave out.
