STATUS OF ACCOUNTANCY
"The Accountants’ Preliminary Examination ends in the year 1930, and thereat ter the only entrance examination will lie the Matriculation,” stated Mr. E. AV. Hunt, at tlie annual meeting of the Accountant Students’ Society last night. “The society has, in one or t"'o instances, been criticised lor this change, but it must be recognised that the Society Council is endeavouring to build up a professionally high standing, and one which can rank with the other learned professions on equal terms. Until such time as the Society of Accountants can point to the fact that its educational qualifications are equal to the other learned bodies, accountancy must suffer in comparison. “I am more than ever convinced that there is room lor all, as long as the qualifications are up io a high standard. That tlie pro'ession is a progressive one is evinced by the fact that tlie examinations of the New Zealand Society of Accountants now exceed any other examinations of the University of New Zealand, and they (hey are being more sought after as the years go by.” He wont on to snv that, with tlie commercial development which was going on within the Dominion, there was a. call for rimilified accountants, and he saw no likelihood of this demand falling off for sonic years to come.
