MANAWATU TOURNAMENT NEARING END. Palmerston North, March 13. The Manawatu Association’s croquet tournament is now drawing to a close. In the open championship singles Mrs. Kirk and Mrs. Spinley played excellent croquet, each getting home splendid shots. After a very closely contested game Mrs. Kirk pegged out one of Mrs. Spinley's balls, leaving her one hoop to make. Mrs. Spinley hit in from the corner to the middle of the field, made the last hoop and pegged out, winning by 4 points. Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Gambrill in the championship singles had a closely contested game. Mrs. Campbell’s more accurate shooting gained the day—this loss depriving Mrs. Gambrill of the championship cup gained last season. Results are as follow:— Handicap Doubles. —Final: Mesdames Gambrill (2) and Robertson (4) beat Mesdames Watson (5) and Lynch (5), 26—18. Handicap Singles. A Grade. —Semifinal: Mrs. Lynch (5) beat Miss McFarlane (51), 26—22; Mrs. Tapp (6) beat Mrs, Turner (4J), 26—20. Championship Singles.—First round: Mrs. Campbell beat Mrs. Gambrill, 26—17. Second round: Mrs. Spinley beat Mrs. Kirk, 26—22. Handicap Singles, B Grade.—Semifinal: Mrs. Sutton (SJ) beat Mrs. Barker (7), 26—22. - u- c □ Manawatu B Championship.—Second round: Mrs. Langford beat Mrs. Simpson, 26—17. Semi-final: Mrs. Sutton beat Mrs. Oliver, 26—16.
