OLYMPIC GAMES
AUSTRALIANS CHOSEN (Rec. February 24, 8 p.m.) Sydney, February 24. The Australian Olympic Federation has definitely chosen the following team to represent Australia at the Olympic Games: — Sculling.—H. R. Pearce. Boxing and wrestling.—A. E. Ford and P. Bolger. Swimjning.—A. Charlton, 400 and 1500 metres free style; T. Boast, back-stroke; Miss E. Davey, 403 metres free style ; Athletics.—J. Carlton, 100 and 200 metres; C. Stuart, 400 and 800 metres; \V. Whyte, 800 and 1500 metres; J. R. Hyde, five thousand and ten thousand metres. It has also been recommended that the following be sent in the order named as funds come in:— Swimming—Miss B. Mealing. Wrestling—T. H. Morris. Cycling—J. Standeii and D. Gray. Athletics—E. M. Davidson. Women’s sprints, Miss E. Robinson. Swimming—R. Grier and E. W. Jones. The last-named two names were added contingent upon its being decided to send a swimming team.
Altogether twenty-one candidates recommended by the sub-committees came up for review, and it is likely all will be sent if the funds for which the federation is starting a drive are all available.
Mr. Les. Duff, the well-known sportsman, has been chosen as manager of the team.
