SUDDEN DEATH

PROMINENT WATERSIDER. The death occurred a t 4.15 p.m. yesterday. of William Currie, a much respected waterside worker, who collapsed and expired immediately while working in the hold of the Union Company’s cargo steamer Kartigi, at berth No. 16, Jervois Quay. He was seen to lift a case to turn it over, when he gasped and fell backwards. Death appeared to be instantaneous. Currie, who was an ex-vice-president of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union, and who from time to time occupied positions on the executive, had been employed for about twenty-six years as a casual waterside worker by the Union Company. He was a native of Christchurch, where be was born 5G years ago. He resided at 72a Boulcott Street, and was unmarried. He was a younger brother of Mr. J. Currie, master stevedore at Wellington.
