RECORD SHIPMENTS BOOKED DIRECT LINERS FOR NELSON DOMINION ALLOTMENTS TO MID-APRIL A bountiful harvest is practically assured to the Dominion’s fruitgrowers, and it is expected that the fruit export season this year will be a record one. The first shipment of the season left New Zealand last week in the ’Tainui and Northumberland, the former taking 8096 cases of apples, and the latter 13,638 cases of apples, and 119 cases of pears for London. The bookings of shipping space received by the New Zealand Fruit Export Board indicate that the record shipments made in 1926 will be exceeded this season, and that the total quantity of apples to be exported this year will be between 850,000 and 900,000 cases. The Huntingdon and the Arawa are expected to load about 40,000 cases at Wellington this week for Southampton, and they will be followed by the Hertford loading between February 27 and March 3 for Southampton. The total allotments, including the shipments taken by the Tainui and Northumberland, up to April 10 total nearly 600,000 cases, and are as follows:— Ship. Loading. DestlC'ases. nation. The first shipments of the season for South America will be 13,500 cases by the Devon, and 12,100 cases by the Pakeha. The Eastern Canadian market 'is being tested by a larger shipment this season, and the Port Hunter will take. 63,000 cases for Montreal. Direct Loadings at Nelson. This year the New Zealand Export Board has arranged for four overseas steamers to load at Nelson. The loadings agreed upon are:— Matatua, March 3 28,000 Devon, April 2-5 43,000 Westmoreland, April 61,000 Raranga, April 15,000 147,000 The whole of this fruit will be for the United Kingdom. The total export bookings from the Nelson Province for the season are 572,000 cases.
