MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE AND SUMMONS CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with police and summons cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For being found in a state of helpless drunkenness in Willis Street, Frederick Arthur Kingan, a labourer, aged 56, was convicted and ordered to pay =£s 16s. expenses incurred, in default 21 days’ imprisonment. Accused, who had been in custody for the past week receiving medical attention, was order-’ ed to pay the money at the rate of 10s. per week. Edward Moran, a labourer, aged 44, was fined 10s., in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, for his second offence of drunkenness. Henry John Charles Carter, alias Carbern, a portdr, aged 37, admitted stealing a bicycle valued at L'7, the property of Patrick Devon. Chief-De-tective Ward stated that accused, who until recently had kept a small cycle repair shop in Adelaide Hoad, had taken in the cycle to mend, but had pawned it for 30s. and gone av ay to Christchurch. He had previously been convicted on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond. Carter, who stated that he had intended to roieem tho bicycle and return it to the owner, was sentenced to one mon til’s imprisonment with hard labour. SUMMONS CASES. Hector Edgar Waite, who admitted committing a breach of the railway regulations by riding a bicycle on the Paekakariki railway platform, v-as fined 10s. and costs. For keeping her shop open at Kilbirnie on a recent Sunday, Ciara Winstanley was fined £1 and costs.
