“ONE MORE CHANCE”
MAGISTRATE WARNS INEBRIATE. William Kelly, alias Vinard, a seaman, aged 41, pleaded guilty in tho Magistrate’s Court yesterdav to his fifth offence of drunkenness and to committing a fifth breach of his prohibition order within six months. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that Kelly had only been released from gaol on Wednesday after undergoing a month’s imprisonment for similar charges. It seemed, however, that he was unable to leave drink alone, and that being so it would be better if he went to "the island” for a term. Mr. E. Page, S.M.: Have you any thing to say. Kelly? The accused: Only, Sir, that I am very sorry and if you give me a chance I will never trouble the Court, again. There is plenty of work on the wharf now, and I can get a job and behave myself. It’s ’ the drink that’s doing it, Sir,, but I won’t taste it again. Just this one chance is all I ask.” The Magistrate: I’ll give you one more chance, hut remember if you come, before this Court again I will send you straight to the island. On the charge of drunkenness you will be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within twelve months. On the other charge you' will be convicted and discharged.
