f CONVERSION OF CAR. Dominion Special Service. Audi land, February 16. A sentence of three months’ imprisonment was passed in the Magistrate’s Court on Henry 'John Thackwell, aged 41, who was charged with converting U» his own use a moior-car, valued at £l5O, the property of L. S. Maxwell and Company, Ltd. On two further charges of obtaining liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, and of (ailing to produce his driver’s license when called upon, the accused was convicted end discharged. All ihe charges were admitted. Senior-Sergeant Cumining said the car had been left in Hobson Street about 4 p.m. on the previous afternoon. The owner bad not locked it, and returning shortly before 4.30 had found it missing. Later’in the evening the owner of the car and a constable had seen the car travelling along Mount Albert Road at a fast rate. The two gaave chase and overtok the accused as lie was entering a shop. “Accused is really a danger to the community,” added the senior-sergeant, producing the accused’s list, which included convictions for theft and false pretences. “I know what to do with him,” remarked the Magistrate (Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.), in passing sentence of three months’ imprisonment.
