PAVING PROGRAMME

GOOD PROGRESS MADE Good progress is being made with the new paving programme. The gang at Karori is moving along satisfactorily from the Karori Park end of the road towards the cemetery, but this is a long stretch, and some weeks yet will be needed to complete the section mentioned. The gang which recently completed the paving of Carlton Gore Road is now engaged in paving the gap in the Evans Bay Road to the south of Balena Bay. When that is finished .there will probably be an appreciable increase in the traffic on the Bay road, owing to the congestion which occurs at about 5 p.m. on Adelaide Road and Riddiford Street. Some motorists say that the Bay Road, though the longer route, will save five minutes on the run from the city to Lyall Bay. A third gang commenced work on Monday with the paving of the gap in the Eastbourne road between Dav’s Bay and Rona Bay: When that is completed they will be employed to pave the railway ramp at White’s Line. In town, Boulcott Street is being prepared for pavement, which will be continued on up to Wellington Terrace.
