WASTE OF WATER

“ENDANGERING WHOLE COMMUNITY” The shortage of water in Wellington was discussed in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday when a number of people were charged with using hoses on gardens. In one case Mr. J. D. Sievwright. J.P., who was on the Bench with Mr. J. McGrath, J.P., said to a defendant prior to fining him: “The Court wants to take a lenient view of these cases because ire realise there is a great temptation to people who have lawns an*! beautiful flowers and want to preserve them. The Court has a certain amount of sympathy with you, but the law says U at the use of a hose means waste of water. In weather such as we have been experiencing, people are liable to become extravagant with the hose and thereby endanger the whole community.”
