FREE AMBULANCE
SUPPORT FROM EASTBOURNE The Mayor (Mr. H. M. Jones) presided over a public meeting held in the Council Chambers at Eastbourne last night to further the interests of the Wellington Free Ambulance. Mr. Marcus Marks, an executive officer of the Free Ambulance, and Mr. Rotfc, the superintendent-secretary, gave a brief outline of the organisation’s history, and the system upon which it was at present carrying out its work in Wellington. Mr. Marks spoke on the various forms of membership which were open to citizens of the Wellington district. Firstly, there was life membership, which was bestowed upon the donor of any gift of JEIO or over to the funds. Any resident who paid .£3 yearly could become an ordinary member, while any number of persons who subscribed £‘3 between th,em could be represented by one “group member.” Mr. Rolfe gave those- present an insight into the working of the system. Both speakers appealed to the residents of Eastbourne, not so much for the financial help which they felt sure would follow, but from the point of view of humanity, since they themselves had seen the good work which the Free Ambulance performed. They earnestly requested those present to interest their friends also by explaining exactly what the functions of the organisation were, for they felt sure that when these became more generally knowu there would bo a ready response.
The Mayor thanked the speakers and the audience for their presence. _ If was very gratifying to know, ho said, that Mr. I. Hart, of Eastbourne, had been enrolled as the first ‘‘life member” in tlio Wellington district.
