EX-SERVICE PATIENTS
——fn — CHjTING BY RED CROSS SOCIETY. Last Friday a party of patients under treatment at i’oriruu Mental Hospital were taken for a day’s oqU ing to the beach at Plimmerton. The picnic was the (bird of six organised by the Wellington Red Cross Society during the summer months; the remaining three will be held between now and the end of Maxell. Seven cars left town at 9.30 a.m. for Porirua, where a party' of thirty was picked up and taken to Plimmerton. The outing was in charge - of Sister Lewj? and Miss Bown, of the Red Cross Ladies’. Auxiliary. Lunen and afternoon tea wua served on the beach. Swimming, fishing, cricket, and other games were enjoyed. Messrs. J. Burnett, 6.8. E., and D, G. Clark, C.8.E., who are the regular visitors to the instjtutieq, paid their usual visit to those patients unable to bo present at the picnic, distributing among them books, sweets, fruit, cake, cigarettes and tobacco. After performing this service they joined the picnic party at Plimmerton. The society is indebted to the folowing for the loan of cars, through whose kindness the outings are made possible Miss Cooper, Mrs, T, Young, Mrs, T. A. Hunter, Messrs. Inglis Bros., Magnus Motors, Ford Salos and Service, and the Red Cross car. The next outing is planned to take place on February 2i. and eight cars are required. The secretary of the Red Cross would be glad to hear from owners of cars willing to co-operate in this important work by placing .a car at the society’s disposal for the flay, The following letter was recently received by the society: "Please accept enclosed £1 Is. towards your for patients from Mental Hospital! T am most grateful for the many kindnesses received by my late husband from fho society while in hospital. The picnics you organised were so much appreciated and did so much to brighten the time spent there. My late husband often spoke of the picnics, and always told me of the kindness ami gifts, eto. It,is only those who visit the hosnital who see for themselves what real and noble work is dona by the Rod Cross to help those people feel that they are not altogether forgotten.”■
