A POPULAR OUTING
A large party of excursionists availed themselves of 'the opportunity provided by the Railway Department's /week-end excursion, to pa.v a visit to Napier during last week-end.' Over two hundred passengers commenced the journey by special train, leaving Thorndon at 11.35 a.m. Stops were made at the principal stations on route to pick up passengers, and at the main Hawke’s Bay stations to allow others to alight, over 466 passengers arriving at Napier at 6.45 p.m. The visitors were welcomed at the station hv the Napier Pipe Band. Lajor in the evening the charm of the delightful Marine Parade drew its quota of admirers, an added attraction being provided by the sculling races, which had been sneeinlly arranged. . On Sunday si"lif-seeini? trips through the’ fruit growing district between Napier and Hastings proved a nopular feature, large numbers availing themselves of the opportunity to make the acom'intanco of some of the most fertile and attractive country, in New Zealand. . The return journey from Napier was commenced nt 5 p.m.. and M ejlington was reached at midnight. Trains and buses were in waiting to convoy the tripners to their homoq in the city and to Petone and Lower Hutt. The arrangements made bv the Railway Department for the comfort and convenience of the excursionists wore favourably commented upon, and the outing was generally considered a most enjoyable one.
