CONFERENCE TO BE CALLED BY MR. BRUCE MEN OF VISION AND SYMPATHY WANTED EXTREMISTS NOT DESIRED The Federal Prime Minister says he desires to keep extrem. ists on both sides from the proposed conference to bring about peace in industry, r.s they would destroy its chance of success. BY Telegraph.—press association. Copyright. (Rec. February 6, 9.10 p.m.) Sydney, February’ 6. Addressing the Constitutional Club, Mr. Bruce, referring to the proposed conference to bring about peace in industry, said there were extremists in the unionists’ and in the employers’ organisations who would react on one another at the conference and destroy its chance of success. He desired to keep these elements on both sides out of the conference, which he wanted to be between men of vision, understanding and sympathy, who had the confidence of their respective sections, and more particularly of the whole of the community. Such a conference would wipe out mistrust and suspicion ’ on both sides, and pave the way to a more amicable discussion between the delegates of the employers and employees. He would call the conference, not as party leader, but as Prime Minister.
