We are able to state on the most trustworthy authority that practically the whole’ of the velvet wheat grown in the Hakataramea Valley has been sold for forward delivery, the price being 7s. 3d. a bushel net on trucks (eaye the Oatnaru ■'Mail"). Hakataramea wheat is always famous for its quality, but all the same the price is a remarkably good one. and the growers will have reason for selfcongratulation if they succeed in getting their wheat safely and soundly into the bags, as it is hoped they will do in the course of a few weeks. The readiness with which the sales were effected and the price agreed upon indicate the existence of an impression that the supply of Velvet or Pearl variety will prove short. If that be correct, we may expect to see the quality ruling high in value during the coming season.
