BURIED TREASURE
SECRETED BY JESUITS IN BOLIVIA
BAND OF EXPLORERS TO SEARCH
London, January 25.
Buried treasure of gold, silver, and diamonds, estimated to be worth £12,000,000, is the fascinating objective of a band of explorers who are shortly setting out for Bolivia. Dr. Edgar Sanders ■ says that the Jesuits mined and exported gold and silver to Europe regularly up to 1767. Aware that they were likely to be banished they continued up to 1778 secreting their hoards ill one place in the belief that they would be allowed to return. Dr. Sanders says that he holds a document revealing’the hiding place. Previous digging operations revealed a silver crucifix and a parchment inscribed with a warning curse upon anybody proceeding further. The workmen declined to proceed. Dr. Sanders declared that he was certain he was on the right track.
